In a bid to further our strategic engagement with world class manufacturers of electronic components, AAD’s GM: Business Process and Supply Chain, Mike Lee, recently undertook a nine-day mission to China to audit six suppliers there. The parameters of the audit were to determine the extent to which these suppliers – essential to the diversification of our electronics market – could broaden our range of technologies and achieve competitive pricing which we can pass on to our existing and future customers.
Given AAD’s status as a ISO9001:2008 certified distributor of electronic components, it is important to assess and verify the capability and capacity of each newly identified manufacturer to meet the requirements of their Quality Management Systems.
But why China specifically?
According to Mike, the Chinese have long displayed productivity and efficiencies in their manufacturing and we can be assured that they produce at a world class quality too. “This combination complements our competitive edge in the South African electronic market”, says Mike. The visit was a continuation of several long-standing relationships with strategically important suppliers with whom AAD shares a similar value for quality and customer service. “This visit did much to reinforce our choice of partner’, says Mike, “as China is becoming a leading power in Green Energy and environmentally sustainable initiatives, displaying impressive growth in this critical sector of our global environment”. These practices were evident at the six suppliers of electronic products he visited, which included manufacturers of Primary and Secondary Batteries, Frequency Control products and Green Energy Products.
Mike adds, “As many of the traditional giants in electronic components have in recent times established manufacturing facilities in China, this will continue to be a strategic market with which to engage”.
